The Rockstar Magician

That's right folks! I've dubbed a nickname. Lately i've had friends calling me a "rock-magician", because most of my stage performances are done along with rock music. And then one of my friends started calling me "Anthony Bass: The Rockstar Magician". So it stuck. =]

Anthony Bass and ACP

Hay thur er'body!
Sorry, long time no blog. Life has been pretty freakin' hectic lately. I just thought i'd fill yous guys in on a few things.

First and foremost, I have just teamed up with a new YouTube production company called Around The Corner Productions (ACP). They'll be helping me film and edit some new, hi-def videos. Filming is starting within the next few weeks, so be expecting something from me soon. i'll also be making a couple cameos in some of their videos (I did take acting classes after all). Keep an eye on these guys, they've got potential. They don't have many videos as of now, but they've got a bunch of things cookin.

Second, I haven't been booking many gigs lately, so here's a shameless plug: If you live in the Dallas/Denton, Texas area, and you need someone like me to provide entertainment at your next party or what-not, hit me up with an email at anthonybass_magic@yahoo.com. I'll be glad to do so (for a small price of course).....=)

Third, I have this really bad itch on my right forearm.......really buggin me.

Anyways, just thought I'd fill you guys in on some important issues. If you wanna chat sometime, that's too bad, cuz i hate chatting. But you can email me! Or you can contact me on my myspace: www.myspace.com/anthonybassmagic

My Love/Hate Relationship: YouTube

I have kind of a love/hate relationship with YouTube. I'll start by telling you my views from both sides of the fence.

Why I Hate YouTube:
Exposure. There are countless, countless exposure videos on YouTube, some even exposing some of our favorite effects. I've seen many exposure videos of effects like Stigmata, Fraud, Greed, I even came across an exposure video of Distortion. Most of these videos are removed when legal action is taken, but that's not going to stop them all. There are alot of immature so called "magicians" out there who have this sick idea in their head that if they reveal effects, their videos will get more views, and their channel will get more subscribers. Let me tell you right now, this is the absolute stupidest way to gain views and subscribers. It's low. If you really think you are a skilled magician, it's alot cooler to post up performance videos than to post exposure videos. I don't care what other people say. If you want me to consider you a "good magician", show me some performances, not revelations. It's low, it's unethical, and it's just plain stupid. A real magician would not reveal secrets to get views. Come on guys. Let's grow up.

Why I Love YouTube:
Let's face it, magic exposure on YouTube will NEVER end. It's inevitable. Unless they make some kind of world-wide law about not posting magic exposure videos on the web, it will never be stopped. But instead of complaining about it ALL THE TIME, let's try to look on the bright side of this situation. Alot of people who see exposure videos on the Internet, they get inspired to get into magic themselves. I'm not one of these people, but I've met some really good magicians who said that the reason they got into magic was because they learned a trick on YouTube, and was hooked. When people reveal effects on the Internet, it not only gets some people into the art, but it also inspires our wonderful magic creators to create better, harder-hitting magic than ever before. As long as there are masses of exposure, there will be masses of new creations. And that's my view on it. Also, YouTube gives us "real magicians" a great opportunity to advertise ourselves. I don't care if it's a video of you performing in front of a webcam, a street magic video, or a video of a stage performance, if you're performing for YouTube, you're advertising, and you enjoy the benefits of it.

So like I said, there are alot of things that hurt magic not only on YouTube, but all over the Internet. But, at the same time, this exposure helps magic in some ways. I'm not going to say I absolutely HATE YouTube, and i'm also not going to say I absolutely LOVE YouTube. As for now, i'm on the fence with this one.

Edge of the World

Hey, everybody. I’ve received a lot of messages/emails on what I perceive as “passion”, and I decided I’d share my insight here.

A lot of magicians today don’t know what others mean by “having a passion for magic”, and I must admit, neither did I at first. It was until I started reading books on magicians that I realized what “passion” really meant. A lot of magicians think passion is loving to do something, like magic for example. That’s only a fraction of what “passion” really means. To me, passion means a DEEP love for something. I mean DEEP. When I ask people if they’re passionate about magic, the majority say something along these lines: “Oh, I’m very passionate about magic. I enjoy performing, I love the look on people’s face, and I love making people happy.” That’s not passion. That’s enjoyment. Passion for something not only means you love how others feel when you do it, but how YOU feel. Think of it this way. When you feel passionate about a person, maybe a girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife, you love them more than anything in the world. But then there are the times when you just enjoy being with them. There’s the difference in passion and enjoyment. If you feel passionate about something/someone, you will be ready and willing to sacrifice damn near EVERYTHING to keep that thing/person with you. If you have a passion for magic, you will be ready and willing to sacrifice DAMN NEAR EVERYTHING to keep going with it. Not as a hobby, as a career. As a way of life. As a passion. Having a passion for something is not only enjoying it, but falling in love with it. I’ve fallen in love with magic. I’m not talking about obsession, where I would go out and buy millions of effects because I want to know everything I can. I’m talking about LOVE. For about two or three years now, magic has been my top priority. My top concern. I LOVE performing magic. Lately, I’ve been performing for myself. Sure, I’ve been performing for people’s enjoyment, but mostly, I perform for myself. A lot of magician’s like to be a little cliché and say “I try to get my magic at an emotional level with my spectator.” That’s great, but don’t you think you should get it at an emotional level with yourself as well?

Just a few thoughts on the subject.

Magicians.com

Hey everybody!
Hopefully this will help out some of the younger magicians out there (and maybe some of the older ones too! OMG!). Are you a magician that wants to belong to a magicians community? Sure, maybe you're a member of a few magic site forums, but does that really make you part of a community? Magicians.com is an awesome site for magicians. It's kinda like Myspace, but with a lower budget (it's run by magicians for Pete's sake), and solely for magicians. So if you're into magic, and want to join a community, Magicians.com.....be there, OR BE SQUARE!!! MUAHAHAHA!!!!

Or you could join IBM or SAM or something like that. If you don't know what those are.......look it up. =D

YouTube

Hey everybody! As most of you know, i'm a frequent user of YouTube.com. I upload videos as often as I can (I have a life too ya know), and I try to impress all of the people who are unimpressable (I like to call them "The Unimpressables"...clever huh?). So if you haven't dropped by my YouTube account before, now would be a great time. =)

Welcome!

Hey 'erbody!
My name is Anthony Bass, and this is where i'll be posting, well, whatever the hell I want! I'll start of by introducing myself. I'm a magician (Who'da thunk it!). I'm known on YouTube, Myspace, and LiveVideo, and in my hometown, Little Elm, Texas. I perform on the streets, in your home (YES, YOURS!), and on stage. I'm all ova' da place! You'll notice that I'm not like other magicians. You won't catch me pulling a rabbit out of a top hat, or linking metal rings (although, top hats are pretty awesome). Also, I'm a little more laid back. Most professional magicians are a little too fancy-schmancy, and want to be perfect little angels. That's not me. I'm different. I have my own, unique style. I guess you could say I'm "street wise". If you want to hire me, you can shoot me an e-mail at anthonybassmagic@yahoo.com, and we'll talk things over. That's it for now, catch ya on the flip side!

Love, peace, and chicken grease,
Anthony Bass
